Hagerty shortlisted in the International Historic Motoring Awards

Hagerty Shortlisted in Prestigious International Historic Motoring Awards

This week we found out we had been shortlisted in the Industry Supporter of the Year category by the prestigious International Historic Motoring Awards.  We’re really very proud of this achievement- the other finalists include the Royal Automobile Club and Jaguar Land Rover Special Operations, so we’re in good company! The winner will be announced at the International Historic Motoring Awards ceremony and gala dinner, taking place at London’s St. Pancras Renaissance Hotel on 19th November.

World’s Second-Oldest Vauxhall to star in Bonhams London to Brighton Veteran Car Run

Vauxhall- the only existing UK manufacturer eligible to enter cars in the Veteran Car Run– has confirmed that their 1903 ‘5HP’ will take part in this, the longest-running car event in the world. The car is only the 45th ever built by Vauxhall, is a rare four-seater model and the second-oldest surviving. Hagerty is a partner of the Veteran Car Club, and as usual, our team members will attend the run. Look out for a full report in the newsletter shortly after the event, which this year takes place on Sunday 1st November 2015.

Stony Stratford New Year’s Day Vintage Event Needs Your Help!

The New Year’s Day Vintage Stony meet (sponsored by Hagerty) has become a very popular event over the last few years and has raised a great deal of money for the Willen Hospice. The event attracts a great selection of pre-war cars, and also superb range of classics. The organisers now need your help- a few marshals are required to help park the cars for a maximum of about 90 minutes throughout the morning (so there will still be plenty of time to see the rest of the event) . If you can help, and are able to attend the briefing at 9am, then please contact organiser Andy Bush at andy@outlook.co.uk.

Classic and Sports Car Show Competition Winners Announced

Thanks to everyone who entered our competition in the 23rd September Hagerty Newsletter. The correct answer (which team was Stirling Moss driving for when he won the 1960 Goodwood TT?) was ‘Rob Walker’. We had lots of correct entries, but five were drawn out of a hat, and each will receive a pair of tickets for the Sunday of the Classic & Sports Car London Show, held at Alexandra Palace on 30th October to 1st November.

Rare Brough Superior SS100 Projects Achieve £500,000 at Bonhams Stafford Sale

A pair of extremely rare Brough Superior SS100 Grand Sports- or at least a jumble of parts creating the basis of two restoration projects- have sold for just under £500,000. The bikes- considered the most desirable of the very collectable Brough Superior models- need a lot of work, but with a good condition SS100 Grand Sport Alpine selling for £315,000 twelve months ago, it shows that the interest in this marque is not waning. See our article on the Brough Superior here.

And Finally…

Anyone out there with a classic VW Beetle or VW camper will know that they are sometimes difficult to start. We found this solution on the internet from an owner in Brazil: the lawn mower method of starting your aircooled engine! https://youtu.be/8cfMMW3UV9Y
