Former Van Halen frontman Sammy Hagar claims I Can’t Drive 55 and it’s no wonder he’d struggle to stick to the speed limit with his fondness for Ferraris.

Hagar appeared in the video for the 1984 hit behind the wheel of his 1982 512 Berlinetta Boxer, but an even rarer machine from his collection of Modena motors will soon be up for sale.

Hagar designed his 2015 LaFerrari in collaboration with the team at Maranello, matching its unique cream paintwork to a photograph of a 1960s car he saw on the wall of the factory. “I fell in love with it and said, ‘No other colors,’” he says. “If you are fortunate enough to get one of these cars from Ferrari, you have to go over there and design your car.”

The interior is trimmed in cream leather with contrasting black piping and features his initials on the steering wheel, which Hagar hasn’t spent quite as much time behind as he imagined, covering just 1100 miles in eight years.

He may be a rock god but Hagar’s driving talents don’t run so deep, he admits, and the combination of a 6.3-litre V12 and a hybrid system delivering 949 horsepower has proven too much.

“Everyone asks why I am selling it. It’s so fast and so powerful, it’s beyond my skills and abilities,” he confesses.

The opportunity for someone else to try their hand at the rocker’s ride will come about at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction 20–28 January, 2024, where bidding is estimated to exceed £1.2 million.

“Every now and then, Ferrari gets everything right – and with this car they really did get everything right,” Hagar adds to his sales pitch.
