Ask Hagerty: How to remove car stickers

Recently, a Hagerty Drivers Club member asked us for help with a sticky situation. Namely, how to easily and safely remove stickers from their car.

We reached out to HDC partner Dodo Juice and Dom Colbeck gave us the answer:

“It’s relatively easy but depends on how stubborn the sticker remnants and adhesive residue is.

On new stickers, simply peel them off and use a mild solvent or tar and glue remover (like Tarmageddon in our range) to eliminate the sticky residue. Household products like WD40 will often work.

On old, deteriorated stickers, heat these up gently using a hair drier or hot air gun to try and soften the underlying glue. Peel them away gently. If they tear or break and the sticker is on glass, you can use a scraper or blade (but never do this on paint!). Then use a solvent or tar and glue remover after to remove the residue.”

Thanks so much to Dom at Dodo Juice for his advice. HDC members get a whopping 15% off their entire order at Dodo Juice. Not a member yet? Find out more and join here.
