Hagerty Honours John Dennis with London to Brighton Veteran Car Run Achievement Award
On Saturday evening, Hagerty honoured John Dennis OBE with the Hagerty London to Brighton Veteran Car Run Achievement Award. The award recognises commitment to the Run and motoring enthusiasm in general.
John Dennis is the grandson of one of the founders of the commercial vehicle manufacturer that bears his name. His involvement in the Run is second to none, and 2015 marks his 56th year of involvement- he has missed just one annual event in that time- and he is the only participant driving a vehicle constructed by his own family.
Hagerty has been the insurance partner of the Veteran Car Run since 2006 and a partner of the Veteran Car Club. We also love taking part- Managing Director Angus Forsyth drove a 1904 Peugeot in this year’s Run.
Forsyth said, “We always enjoy participating in such a special and enjoyable event. We hope to continue to support the Run for many years. We are also delighted to honour John Dennis, his passion and commitment is what classic motoring is all about.”
Ford Mustang Goes Missing…. At Some Point Since 1995
Relatives of a Welwyn Garden City resident who died in August went to find his classic car, and found it missing. The police were called, but are finding the theft difficult to deal with, considering the last time the family are sure they saw the car was in 1995.
The car, Ford Mustang (second generation), was stored at a lock-up in the city. The family are sure that the owner had not sold the car, as all the paperwork was found at his house.
The red Mustang has the registration VTM 648S. If anyone can help with its whereabouts, please contact Det Con Geoff Smith at Hertfordshire Police, link here: Hertfordshire Police.
Goodwood Track Day Winner Has A Classic Day To Remember
At this year’s Goodwood Revival we ran a competition for one lucky entrant to win a classic track day at Goodwood with Mithril Racing.
The lucky winner was Marc Fenner, a Citroen 2CV enthusiast from Surrey. On 16th October, he returned to a rather overcast Goodwood to take up his prize, driving a selection of classics including a Ferrari 308 GTB, a Jaguar Mk 2, an AC Cobra Replica, a Lotus Elan and a Porsche 911.
Asked which was his favourite, Marc replied: “The Mark II Jag. It was more powerful than I expected, and although there was a bit of ‘roll’ in the body, it felt like a classic car should.”
The track day was organised by Mithril Racing who are based at Goodwood. A full article about Marc’s day will be included in a future newsletter- to subscribe, visit the Hagerty Newsletter page here.
