The Historic Sports Car Club is Britain’s premier historic motor racing club. It was formed in 1966 to encourage the preservation and continued racing use of the classic sports and sports racing cars of the 1940s and 1950s, many of which were being neglected or even forgotten.
The very first event the Club put on was a demonstration race at the Castle Combe Circuit in Wiltshire, and from those small beginnings it has developed into one of the major race organising clubs in Britain. In its 40-plus years the club has retained its original ethos of maintaining and restoring original race cars for competition.
The club runs an average of 12 race meetings a year including the Brands Hatch Superprix, The Oulton Park Gold, The Donington Historic Festival and both the Silverstone Classic and the Silverstone International. The Club adminsters a total of 13 Race Championships and series.
In formulating it racing programme each year, the Club tries to keep a balance between continuing to provide for early cars while also creating opportunities for newer ‘historic’ cars. The club now runs events for sports racing and GT cars, road-going sports cars, Saloons and many single-seater categories, all providing exciting racing. Although classes differ, most cars must be pre-1980 to qualify.
For 2012, the HSCC has launched a new series of races for the One Litre Historic Formula 3 cars, which has attracted many competitors from across Europe, as well as the UK.
