Ferrari F355 restomod by Evoluto

The F355 is one of the most loved Ferraris of all time, so to modify it is a bold move. Some might even say blasphemous. But Evoluto knows that. Taking the chassis back to bare metal, reinforcing it with carbon fibre, lightening the whole thing by 220lbs (100kg) and giving it 10 percent more power all seems very positive, but to really put it to the test, Henry Catchpole went to one of his favourite roads in Scotland. You’ll probably want your best speakers or headphones for the V8 at 8000rpm…

Evoluto is a UK-based company and part of DRVN Automotive, which also has Boreham Motorworks and Alan Mann Racing under its umbrella. We’ve already driven the AMR 68 in a previous video and thoroughly enjoyed it, so our hopes were high for this project. However, as someone that grew up loving Ferrari, Henry was more than a little concerned about the idea of meddling with a Maranello legend. Costing around $800,000 or £600,000 plus a donor car, the 355 by Evoluto is definitely not a cheap creation. And there was always going to be a tricky balance to be struck in terms of how much to change the car and show it as something new, yet also keep it resembling the iconic, Pininfarina penned Ferrari it’s based on. Callum Designs was given the task of sculpting the new carbon fibre bodywork and while it’s clearly still a Ferrari F355, there are now more hints of 288 GTO.

Whether you approve of the styling or not, it’s hard to disagree with the way it drives. The quicker steering – just 2 turns from lock to lock, down from 3.25 – with hydraulic power assistance, the passive R53 suspension, the open-gate manual gearbox and the naturally aspirated engine are all sublime ingredients that come together beautifully.
