Model History: Porsche Carrera GT
The Porsche Carrera GT is a mid-engine targa sports car produced by Porsche between 2006 and 2006. With a mid-mounted 5733cc DOHC V10 producing 603bhp linked to a six-speed manual, the car is considered to be one of the peak analogue supercars of its generation.
The Porsche Carrera GT project was almost shelved thanks to the imminent arrival of its stablemate, the Audi R8, but the popularity of a concept car at the Paris Motor Show in 2000 led Porsche to create a run of cars, initially planned to be 1500 examples pf the Carrera GT, but which only 1270 cars (including under 50 in the UK) were produced.
With both F1 and LMP DNA, the Carrera GT produced a quoted top speed of 205mph and in road tests achieved 0-60mph in 3.5 seconds. Its peers included the Ferrari Enzo, the Mercedes-Benz McLaren SLR and the Bugatti Veyron.
