History of the 2005 - 2011 Bugatti Veyron
Model History Bugatti Veyron 16.4 2005-2011
On purchasing the rights to the Bugatti name in 1998, owners Volkswagen decided to make a car that would obliterate both records and its competitors. In a market that was already flushed with hypercars such as the Ferrari Enzo, Porsche Carrera GT and Koenigsegg CC8S, this new Bugatti had to be something special... and it was.
The press reaction when the Veyron was launched in 2005 was exceptional. With nigh-on 1000hp generated by an immense 64-valve, 8-litre W16 mid-mounted engine, the Bugatti Veyron was tested up to a maximum speed of 253.81, a road-car record, reaching 60mph in a superbike-challenging 2.4 seconds. Almost as impressive was its stopping distance, braking from 100kph (62mph) in 31.4m.
Various limited editions were created over the lifespan of the first variation, all of which will command greater values than the base Bugatti Veyron. Later, the car was developed into a targa Grand Sport model, and then developed into the Super Sport and Grand Sport Vitesse models, with these later cars offering a 267mph top speed.
