History of the 1967 - 1970 Honda S600
Honda S600, 1964 - 1966
The Honda S600 is a roadster and fastback coupe produced by Honda between 1964 and 1966. Although not listed on the UK market, some have been imported.
The car used a standard front-engine, rear wheel drive layout with a DOHC, straight 4-cylinder 606cc engine. The engine was very technologically advanced for the period, and drew heavily from Honda's motorcycle experience. Of aluminium construction, it used hemispherical cross-flow heads, four Keihin side-draft carburettors, roller-bearing supported cams, allowing it to rev to 9,500rpm. The car used a roller chain drive to power the rear wheels, and a four-speed gearbox. As a result, the car boasted a top speed of just under 100mpg.
Today, the Honda S600 is a rare find in the UK. The engines are excellent but require care to rebuild and other motors may be better suited to the amateur. Bodies were steel and rust in all the usual places, but the roadster's convertible top is usually well-fitting and easy to put up.
